Omnipresent in everyday life and in tomorrow's products, textile is also involved in the Véhicule du futur competitiveness cluster (Solutions for future vehicles & mobility). Destined to allow designers' dreams to come true and to create a differenciation in favour of purchasing, the Dec'autex passenger compartment comfort R&D programme has got a first project financed (3,4 million of euros), whose aim is to develop decoration techniques on plastic or textile film. Leading this project: Protechnic, in partnership with IFTH, SEF, Profiline, Cetim-Cermat and Esisar.
Biomimetics, another Véhicule du futur textile project which has also been supported by the Microtechniques competitiveness cluster, is hoping for 500 000 euros financial help. The aim is to develop intelligent fabrics with variable colours and brightness. Leading this project: Incotex Clara Lander, in partnership with Creadec, Akilog and the LMS.

5 million of euros from the French government have allowed to close the financing plan of the European Innovative Textiles Centre (38,5 million of euros). Building works should start in March 2008 and end about two years later. Meant to be European or even more international, the Ceti will focus on 4 topics: polymers (especially green polymer chemistry), textile engineering (from spinning to weaving), nonwovens and finishing.

Financed within the framework of EU FP5, the NEREFITE project has enabled the development of a ' textile materials fire-test database for safety and environment hazard assessment'. This should lead to the drawing up of codes and standards for the use of compounds in performance-based textile engineering.
Lead by the IFTH, the NEREFITE project has been developed with French businesses (Amarande, Tergal, Subrenat, Fiberweb France, Tarkett Sommer, Rhodia Recherches, Amkey Management) and a research laboratory ( Laboratoire de Génie des Procédés d'Interactions Fluides Réactifs-Matériaux) and with several European partners (Belgium, the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy ( Centro di Cultura per l'Ingegneria delle Materie Plastiche)).
